It’s high time to change the healthcare system in the US
Each year, the healthcare system in the US keeps getting more and more expensive. Part of the reason is because of the high amount of bureaucracy involved. Political leaders who have been elected by the people should use the power of their office to help control or alter they way healthcare is delivered rather than just accept donations from the healthcare lobby. It’s time that we make a serious effort to study healthcare systems around the world to see what works and what doesn’t, because clearly the current system in the US is not working for those who consume it. In an article titled “Plug the healthcare drain” written in the Rocky Mountain News by Ron Forthofer, he compares they healthcare system in Canada to the one in the US. While the healthcare system in Canada is funded by public dollars, the delivery of that system is managed by private companies.
“The Canadian health care delivery system is private, but the financing is public. It is a tax-based system costing far less than we pay in the U.S.
Health care expenses in the U.S. consume about 16 percent of our GDP vs. about 10 percent in Canada. The U.S. “system” is wasteful, with as much as 25 percent of premiums used for things other than health care. More importantly, the Canadian system covers everyone with comprehensive medical care, whereas our “system” fails to cover almost 47 million Americans, and another 30 million to 50 million are underinsured. ”
Even though the current system is more beneficial to medical tourism businesses such as Global Surgical Solutions, we still think its high time that somebody make an effort to start fixing the healthcare system in the US.
We would be interested in hearing what others out there have to say. Send us your comments!

I read your statement with interest , you indicated that the current dysfunction was better for companies such as Global Surgical Solutions (GSS). It occurs to me however that the Canadian sytem with it’s excessive waiting periods for elective surgeries is a ripe market for GSS as well….

Dear Jackie,
Thank you very much for your comment. You are indeed correct that Canada is a great market for medical tourism companies. We receive a number of inquiries on a daily basis from Canada, as well as the UK; both countries that have nationalized healthcare systems.
As we mentioned in the blog, it doesn’t appear that any country has found a perfect solution for the delivery of healthcare yet.
This topic is of obvious interest to us, so we will be putting up more posts in the coming days relating to this, so we welcome any more comments that you may have.
